Léa: Papa a raison. Moi, j’ai plein de trucs à dire ! Cette semaine, c’était vraiment n’importe quoi.
Catherine: Ah bon ?
Thomas: Ah ouais, je me souviens !
Thomas: Bon, d’accord, j’y réfléchirai…
Marc: D’ailleurs, ça me fait penser… Maman, euh…
Marc: Vous avez raison.
Marc: Combien exactement ?
Léa: Euh… 350 euros…
Thomas: Waouh ! Ça fait un paquet !
Catherine: On va regarder ça ensemble, ma puce. Tu le mérites vraiment.
Marc: Absolument. D’ailleurs, ça me rappelle qu’on avait dit qu’on ferait plus d’activités en famille.
Thomas: Ah oui !
English translation
It’s Sunday evening at the Moreau home. As every weekend, parents Catherine and Marc sit in the living room to review the past week with their two teenage children, Léa (16) and Thomas (14). This family tradition allows them to share their difficulties and celebrate their shared successes.
DIALOGUE
Catherine: Okay, kids, make yourselves comfortable! It’s time for our little weekly check-in.
Thomas: Uh… do we have to? I’ve still got homework to finish for tomorrow…
Marc: Come on, Tom, you know it never takes very long. Besides, we’ve had a pretty eventful week, haven’t we?
Léa: Dad’s right. I’ve got a lot to say! This week was really crazy.
Catherine: Oh really? What happened, sweetheart?
Léa: Well, first of all, on Monday I completely failed my math test. I thought it was on Tuesday!
Thomas: Oh yeah, I remember! You threw a fit at breakfast!
Léa: Hey! I didn’t throw a fit, I was just… stressed, that’s all.
Marc: And how did you manage in the end?
Léa: Actually, luckily Mom was there. She called the high school to explain the situation, and Mrs. Dubois let me retake the exam on Wednesday.
Catherine: Yes, but admit you really made up for it! You worked like crazy on Tuesday night.
Thomas: It’s true, she didn’t even watch her favorite show!
Léa: Thanks, Tom… What about you? Did things with your friends at middle school get sorted out?
Thomas: Uh… not really. Actually, it’s become even more complicated.
Marc: What do you mean? You told us you’d made up with Antoine.
Thomas: Yeah, but actually he’s been telling everyone that I broke his scooter. But that’s not true!
Catherine: Darn! And what are you going to do?
Thomas: Well, actually, I’m not really sure… Uh, could you help me?
Léa: Wait, why don’t you just ask him for an explanation? Like, in front of witnesses?
Marc: Léa has a good idea. You could talk to your homeroom teacher about it too, couldn’t you?
Thomas: Mm… I don’t want to come off as a tattletale.
Catherine: Listen, dear, sometimes you need to ask adults for help. It’s not being a tattletale, it’s being smart.
Thomas: Okay, all right, I’ll think about it… But you, how was your week?
Marc: Oh man! Don’t remind me. I almost forgot your grandmother’s birthday!
Léa: What? Grandma Suzanne? But it was on Thursday!
Catherine: Fortunately I checked my planner on Wednesday night! Your father was convinced it was next week.
Marc: I’ll admit, I was sweating bullets! We ran all over the place to find her a decent present.
Thomas: And what did you end up getting her?
Catherine: A nice gardening book and some flowers. But the most important thing is that we all managed to make time to go see her.
Léa: You bet! She was so happy to see all of us together.
Marc: By the way, that reminds me… Mom, uh… Catherine, would you mind if we talked about the car thing?
Catherine: Oh yes! Kids, believe it or not, Dad had a little fender-bender on Friday.
Thomas: Huh? Hey, you never told us!
Marc: It was really nothing at all! Just a small scratch in the supermarket parking lot.
Léa: But Dad, you should have told us! We were worried to see you acting strange this weekend.
Catherine: You see? That’s exactly why we have these little get-togethers. To share, even the little worries.
Marc: You’re right. Actually, I was mostly bothered because the other driver wasn’t very friendly.
Thomas: What was he like?
Marc: Let’s just say he was yelling a lot… But anyway, the insurance will take care of everything.
Catherine: And most importantly, no one was hurt.
Léa: Great! By the way, I have some good news too!
Thomas: Oh? Tell us!
Léa: I’ve been selected for the school trip to Spain!
Catherine: Oh my darling, that’s fantastic! When is it happening?
Léa: In April. But um… you’ll need to sign lots of forms, and it’s a bit expensive…
Marc: How much exactly?
Léa: Um… 350 euros…
Thomas: Wow! That’s a lot!
Catherine: We’ll go over it together, my darling. You really deserve it.
Marc: Absolutely. Besides, it reminds me that we had said we’d do more family activities.
Thomas: Oh yes! We had planned to start going on bike rides again!
Catherine: Great idea! How about next Sunday?
Léa: Totally! And this time, we’ll have a proper picnic!
Marc: Well, I think we can say that this week, despite the little troubles, we got through it pretty well together, didn’t we?
Thomas: Yeah, after all, these little chats aren’t so bad…
Catherine: Perfect! Come on, everyone, to bed now. Tomorrow, it’s back to a new week!
