Reminiscing about old times and school stories

DIALOGUE

Marie: Thomas ? Thomas Dubois ? C’est bien toi ?
Thomas: Marie ! Ça alors ! Qu’est-ce que tu fais là ? Ça fait une éternité !
Marie: Au moins quinze ans ! Depuis le bac, je crois. Tu n’as pas tellement changé, dis donc !
Marie: Flatteur ! Allez, viens, on s’assoit. J’ai le temps. Et toi ?
Thomas: Oui, bien sûr ! J’ai rendez-vous dans une heure seulement. Alors, raconte !
Tu as raison !
Tiens, et Sophie Martineau, tu as gardé contact ?
Thomas: Sophie ? Non, pas du tout. Pourquoi ?
Marie: Ben, vous étiez ensemble à l’époque ! Elle était folle de toi !
Thomas: On n’était pas vraiment ensemble… juste quelques sorties. Et Paul, tu te souviens de Paul ?
Marie: Paul Moreau ? Le grand brun qui jouait au basket ?
Thomas: Exactement ! Il est devenu kiné. Je l’ai croisé il y a deux ans. Il m’a dit qu’il te cherchait !
Marie: Ah bon ? Chouette !
Thomas: Exactement ! On n’a jamais avoué ! Quel culot on avait à l’époque !
Thomas: Tu as raison ! D’ailleurs, j’ai une confession à te faire…
Marie: Ah ? Laquelle ?
Thomas: Vraiment ? Ben ça alors ! Si on avait su !
Marie: Eh oui ! La vie, hein ! Bon, et maintenant ? Tu es marié ?
Thomas: Divorcé depuis trois ans. Et toi ?
Marie: Célibataire ! Écoute, ça te dirait qu’on se revoie ? Pour de vrai, je veux dire ?
Thomas: Avec grand plaisir ! On pourrait dîner ensemble ce week-end ?
Marie: Parfait !

DIALOGUE

Marie: Thomas? Thomas Dubois? Is that really you?
Thomas: Marie! Well I’ll be! What are you doing here? It’s been ages!
Marie: At least fifteen years! Since the baccalauréat, I think. You haven’t changed that much, I must say!
Thomas: You haven’t changed either! Well… uh… you’re even prettier than before, if that’s possible!
Marie: Flatterer! Come on, sit down. I’ve got the time. And you?
Thomas: Yes, of course! I only have an appointment in an hour. So, tell me! What have you been up to?
Marie: Well, I’m a history teacher now. And you? You said you wanted to study medicine, didn’t you?
Thomas: Ah no, I gave that up. I’m in IT after all. Do you remember how awful I was at science?
Marie: No way! You’re talking nonsense! You always had good grades with Madame Leroux!
Thomas: Madame Leroux! That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time! She was really strict, wasn’t she!
Marie: Oh yes! Do you remember when she gave you detention because you’d forgotten your notebook?
Thomas: Huh? Me? No, it was you! You even cried!
Marie: Not at all! It was definitely you! I’m sure of it!
Thomas: Uh… hang on… no, no, I remember very well. It was in my final year, in March…
Marie: Exactly! March of your final year! And you were late on top of that!
Thomas: Ah yes! You’re right! Darn, my memory is playing tricks on me! And on top of that, I had made up a story about my alarm not going off…
Marie: See! And she didn’t believe you for a second! Oh, and Sophie Martineau – have you kept in touch?
Thomas: Sophie? No, not at all. Why?
Marie: Well, you were together back then! She was crazy about you!
Thomas: We weren’t really together… just a few dates. And Paul, do you remember Paul?
Marie: Paul Moreau? The tall dark-haired guy who played basketball?
Thomas: Exactly! He became a physiotherapist. I ran into him two years ago. He told me he was looking for you!
Marie: Really? Great! I’d love to see him again. We were good friends.
Thomas: He still lives in the neighbourhood, I think. Tell me, do you remember the school trip to Spain?
Marie: Oh my! What an adventure! When Mr. Durand lost the passports!
Thomas: And we were stuck at the border for three hours! The Spanish had no idea what was going on!
Marie: And that night at the hotel when there was that total blackout!
Thomas: That’s right! And Julien, who was afraid of the dark! He came into our room!
Marie: Poor Julien! By the way, do you know what he’s up to these days?
Thomas: Uh… no idea. But wait, I just remembered something! That passport thing…
Marie: What?
Thomas: Actually, it wasn’t Mr. Durand who had lost them! It was us! Well, you and me!
Marie: What do you mean, ‘us’?
Thomas: Of course! We had left them on the previous bus! Don’t you remember? We acted like nothing had happened!
Marie: Oh my God! It’s true! And the poor teacher got told off by the director!
Thomas: Exactly! We never owned up! What nerve we had back then!
Marie: Goodness, we weren’t exactly on the level! Well, now, after fifteen years, we might as well admit it!
Thomas: You’re right! Besides, I have a confession to make to you…
Marie: Oh? Which one?
Thomas: Actually… um… I was kind of in love with you in high school.
Marie: No way? Me too! But I was too shy to tell you!
Thomas: Really? Well I’ll be! If we’d known!
Marie: Oh yes! Life, huh! So, now? Are you married?
Thomas: Divorced for three years. And you?
Marie: Single! Listen, would you like to see each other again? For real, I mean?
Thomas: I’d love to! Could we have dinner together this weekend?
Marie: Perfect! And who knows? Maybe we’ll be able to make some new memories!
