Mamie vient demain ? Tu me l’avais pas dit !
Théo: Mais maman, ça va me prendre des heures !
Sylvie: Tu me promets ça à chaque fois ! La dernière fois, tu as tenu… quoi ?
Sylvie: Probablement ! Alors, motivé pour le rangement maintenant ?
Théo: Carrément ! J’y vais de ce pas !

In a suburban house near Paris, it’s Saturday morning and Sylvie, a mother, discovers that her 14-year-old son Théo’s bedroom is in a catastrophic state. She decides to have a talk with him so that he finally tidies his room, but the teenager is not at all cooperative.
DIALOGUE
Sylvie: Théo ! Can you come here for a second, please?
Théo: Uh… I’m coming, Mom! One minute!
Sylvie: No, now! I just saw your room and honestly, it’s a total mess!
Théo: Oh really? Well… it’s not that bad…
Sylvie: Not that bad? There are clothes everywhere, your books are strewn on the floor, and I won’t even mention that smell! When was the last time you tidied up?
Théo: I don’t know… maybe last week? Look, Mom, I don’t really have time right now…
Sylvie: What do you mean you don’t have time? You spend all day on that console!
Théo: That’s not true! And anyway, my room is my private space, isn’t it?
Sylvie: Your personal space in MY house! And this house, we share it as a family.
Théo: But nobody ever goes into my room anyway…
Sylvie: Don’t kid yourself! Your grandmother’s coming tomorrow night, remember? She’s going to sleep in your room while you’ll be on the living-room sofa.
Théo: What? Grandma’s coming tomorrow? You didn’t tell me!
Sylvie: Yes, I told you three days ago! You never listen to me when I talk to you.
Théo: Darn… Well, can’t we put her in the guest room?
Sylvie: The guest room – we’re repainting it right now, did you forget? There’s still the smell of paint.
Théo: Oh yeah, that’s right… Okay, I’ll tidy up a bit.
Sylvie: A little? Théo, it has to be impeccable! Your grandmother is 78, she deserves at least a little respect.
Théo: But Mom, that’s going to take me hours! I was supposed to go out with Lucas this afternoon…
Sylvie: Well, you should’ve thought of that earlier! If you tidied up regularly, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
Théo: Okay, okay… But can you help me, at least?
Sylvie: Help you? Huh? You’re 14 – you can tidy up your things on your own!
Théo: Yeah, but… uh… I don’t really know how to go about it. Where should I start?
Sylvie: Well, that’s new! Usually you can do everything better than I can…
Théo: Come on, Mom, please! I promise I’ll be more careful from now on.
Sylvie: You promise me that every time! Last time, you lasted… what? Two days?
Théo: This time it’s different, I swear! Besides, Lucas can come help me if you want.
Sylvie: Oh no! When you two are together, you make even more of a mess! You can manage on your own.
Théo: Alright… fine. But afterward, can I go out?
Sylvie: If it’s really spotless and you do the vacuuming, yes.
Théo: The vacuum too? That’s too much!
Sylvie: I’m not exaggerating at all! And change your sheets too, they’ve got a… questionable color.
Théo: My sheets are fine!
Sylvie: Théo, they were white to begin with! Now they’re turning gray…
Théo: Alright, alright… I’ll do all that. But you’ll leave me alone afterward, okay?
Sylvie: Deal! And next time, spare me that argument. A teenager tidying his room is the least he can do!
Théo: Yeah, I get it… Okay, I’m on it right away.
Sylvie: Perfect! And don’t forget: your grandmother is arriving around 7 p.m. tomorrow. I’m counting on you!
Théo: Don’t worry, Mom… Uh… by the way, is she bringing her famous cookies?
Sylvie: Probably! So, motivated to tidy up now?
Théo: Totally! I’m off right now!
