Dialogue about sharing gifts: before or after dinner

Lucas : Ooooh ! Tu nous as acheté quoi ?
Marc : Zut ! Sophie, tu m’as encore acheté des pulls ?

English translation

It’s Christmas Eve at the Dubois household. Sophie and Marc, a married couple, are preparing for the Christmas Eve celebration with their two children, Emma (12) and Lucas (8). As every year, a small discussion begins about the ideal time to open the presents: should they respect the family tradition or give in to the children’s pleas?
Please provide the French dialogue to translate.
Sophie : Okay, kids, help me set the table. Dad will be back soon with Grandma.
Emma : Mom, this year, can we open the presents before dinner? Please!
Lucas : Yeah! Me too! I’ve been very good this year!
Sophie : Uh… you know that in our family we always open presents after dinner. It’s tradition!
Emma : But why? At Léa’s, they open everything before dinner. It’s more fun that way!
Marc : *[arriving with groceries]* Hi everyone! So, what’s going on? I can hear negotiations from the doorway!
Lucas : Dad! Tell Mom we can open the presents now! Look, they’re right there under the Christmas tree waiting for us!
Marc : Well… *[looking at Sophie]* What do you think, darling?
Sophie : Marc! You know exactly what I think. My parents are arriving in an hour, and…
Emma : Exactly! Grandma and Grandpa love watching us open our presents. We could do it during the aperitif!
Marc : Hmm, that’s not a bad idea… It would create a more relaxed atmosphere for the meal.
Sophie : *[sighing]* You’re all ganging up on me! But come on, the Christmas Eve dinner is sacred! First we eat, we talk, and then…
Lucas : But Mom, if we eat first, then we’ll get tummy aches and be too tired!
Marc : He’s not wrong, the little one. And besides, it would keep them from being distracted throughout the whole meal.
Sophie : Mmh… you’re putting me in a real dilemma here. My mother will give me one of those looks if we change our routine!
Emma : We can explain it to her! Grandma’s cool. Last year she even said that traditions change.
Sophie : Oh really? She said that? When?
Emma : Well, when you wanted to make turkey instead of the traditional capon!
Marc : *[laughing]* She’s got you, darling! Come on, let’s be a little rebellious this year!
Sophie : Oh dear… Okay, fine, but on one condition: we each open ONE present before the meal, and the rest afterwards. Is that okay with you?
Lucas : Uh… just one? But I have lots of them under the tree!
Emma : Lucas! That’s already great! Thanks, Mom! *[kissing her]*
Marc : Smart compromise! So, which one are you going to choose then?
Emma : Oh dear… it’s hard to choose! This one? No, that one instead…
Sophie : Wait, wait! We need to wait for Grandma to arrive first. And besides, there’s a problem…
Marc : A problem? Which one?
Sophie : Well… I haven’t wrapped the gift for you two yet! I was planning to do it during this afternoon’s nap, but…
Lucas : Ooooh! What did you get us?
Sophie : Oh no, you little rascal! That’s going to stay a surprise! Marc, can you go and get the wrapping paper from the cupboard?
Marc : Right away! *[walking away]* By the way, Mom called. She’s bringing her famous chocolate yule log!
Emma : Great! Well, while we’re waiting for her to arrive, can we at least shake the presents to try to guess?
Sophie : Emma! We don’t do that! It’s… it’s…
Lucas : What? That’s not forbidden!
Sophie : *[smiling despite herself]* All right, go on, but quietly! And not a word to Grandma about our new schedule, okay? I’ll explain it to her myself.
Emma : I promise! Oh, that present makes a funny noise…
Marc : *[returning]* So, detectives, any clues?
Lucas : Dad, your present is all soft! It’s clothes!
Marc : Darn! Sophie, did you buy me sweaters again?
Sophie : *[mysterious]* Maybe… or maybe not! Come on, get to work now. Everything must be ready for Grandma’s arrival!
Emma : This year is going to be different… I can’t wait! Thanks for agreeing, Mom.
Sophie : You’re welcome, sweetie. After all, Christmas is about making the people we love happy, isn’t it?
