Tu as l’air énervée.
Lucas : Ben maman, j’allais justement ranger ma chambre cet après-midi…
Sophie : Cet après-midi ?
Sophie : On avait quoi ? Des excuses, toujours des excuses ! Moi aussi j’ai du travail, hein !
Lucas : Allez maman, calme-toi. C’est pas si dramatique que ça…
Sophie : Pas dramatique ?
Thomas : Sophie a raison, fiston. On a tous tendance à repousser les corvées en se disant qu’on les fera “demain”.
Sophie : Exactement !
Thomas : Bon, on va s’organiser.
On s’y met maintenant, tous ensemble ?
Lucas : Maintenant ?
Ça a duré trois semaines.
Thomas : Allez, on s’y met !
Sophie : On verra bien… Bon, au boulot tout le monde !
Lucas : Euh… on commence par où exactement ?
Sophie : Par TA chambre, jeune homme ! Et que ça saute !
English translation
The situation takes place in the Moreau family home on a Sunday morning. Sophie, the mother, discovers the catastrophic state of the house after a busy week during which everyone put their household chores off “until later”. She calls out to her husband Thomas and their teenage son Lucas to take stock of this situation, which is becoming unmanageable.
DIALOGUE
Sophie : Okay, that’s enough now! Thomas, Lucas, come and take a look over here!
Thomas : Uh… what’s going on, honey? You seem upset.
Sophie : Upset? Look around you! The dishes have been piling up for three days, the dirty laundry is overflowing the hamper, and don’t even get me started on the vacuum that’s sleeping in the closet!
Lucas : Well, Mom, I was just going to tidy my room this afternoon…
Sophie : This afternoon? You’ve been saying that for a week! And you, Thomas, how long have you been supposed to fix the dripping tap?
Thomas : Ah yes, the tap… Well look, I’ve had a lot of work this week, and then last weekend we had…
Sophie : What did we get? Excuses, always excuses! I have work too, you know!
Lucas : Come on, Mom, calm down. It’s not that dramatic…
Sophie : Not dramatic? Lucas, your friend Martin was supposed to come study with you yesterday, and you had to cancel because your room looked like a battlefield!
Lucas : Uh… yeah, well, that’s true. But I had an important test to study for, so…
Thomas : Sophie is right, son. We all tend to put off chores, telling ourselves we’ll do them “tomorrow”.
Sophie : Exactly! And meanwhile the mess builds up and I end up looking like the mean one who complains all the time.
Thomas : Okay, let’s get organized. What should we do? Divide up the chores?
Lucas : Dad, I have a soccer match this afternoon with the high school team…
Sophie : Oh! Another “unexpected” one! And of course you couldn’t have thought of it earlier?
Lucas : Well, yes, but I thought we’d clean tomorrow… or Tuesday…
Thomas : Lucas, you can see that’s annoying your mother. It’s getting to me too – this mess is starting to weigh on me.
Sophie : Oh really? Your socks lying around the living room don’t bother you?
Thomas : My socks? What socks?
Sophie : The ones you take off in front of the TV every night and leave under the coffee table!
Thomas : Ah… uh… darn, you’re right. I didn’t even notice.
Lucas : Actually, we’re all a bit messy in this family…
Sophie : Exactly! And the problem is that we always put everything off. “I’ll do it tomorrow”, “I’ve got time”, “It’s not urgent”…
Thomas : Right, let’s change all that. Shall we get started now, all together?
Lucas : Now? But the match starts in two hours!
Sophie : Well, you should’ve thought of that sooner! Anyway, with the house in this state, you’re not going anywhere.
Lucas : Oh no… this is impossible! Coach will kill me if I miss training!
Thomas : Wait, Sophie, maybe we can work something out. If Lucas tidies his room quickly and does the dishes, he could go, right?
Sophie : And you, what are you doing in the meantime? Watching TV?
Thomas : Well no, I… uh… I’m fixing the tap and vacuuming!
Sophie : Okay, but I’m fed up with always having to be the one in charge. We need to find a long-term solution.
Lucas : Could we make a schedule? With everyone’s tasks?
Thomas : Good idea! That way there’ll be no more excuses like “I forgot” or “I didn’t know it was my turn.”
Sophie : Yeah… we already tried that six months ago. It lasted three weeks.
Lucas : This time will be different, I promise! And if someone doesn’t stick to the schedule, they have to do the cooking for a week!
Thomas : Hey! That’s a bit extreme as a punishment!
Sophie : No, that’s perfect! So, what do we start with? A deep clean today, and tomorrow we make the schedule?
Lucas : OK, but can I really go to the match if I do my part?
Sophie : If everything’s spotless, yes. But be warned, I’ll check everything!
Thomas : Come on, let’s get to it! And this time, no more procrastination in this house!
Sophie : We’ll see… Alright, everyone, get to work!
Lucas : Uh… where do we start exactly?
Sophie : Start with YOUR room, young man! And make it snappy!
