Thomas: On verra, on verra… Bon alors, c’est décidé ? Musée samedi matin ?
Emma: Ouais, allez…

Claire and her husband Thomas are discussing with their teenage daughter Emma cultural outings they could do together this weekend. The family wants to enjoy a relaxing time after a busy week, but everyone has their own preferences and constraints.
DIALOGUE
Claire: So, what are we doing this weekend? It’s been a long time since the three of us did anything together.
Emma: Um… I don’t really know, Mom. I was planning to see Léa on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas: Well, actually, we could plan a cultural outing! Hey, I saw there’s an exhibition on contemporary art at the Museum of Fine Arts.
Emma: Oh no, Dad! Not another museum… Last time we were there for three hours! My feet hurt.
Claire: Emma, don’t be so picky. Besides, it’s enriching! Well, if the museum doesn’t appeal to you, what would you suggest?
Emma: Well… there’s that new dance show at the municipal theatre. My friends mentioned it; it sounds really great!
Thomas: Modern dance? Hmmm… it’s not really my thing, you know.
Claire: Come on, Thomas! You have to open yourself up to new experiences. By the way, when exactly is it?
Emma: Saturday evening at 8:30 PM. But, uh… you have to book in advance and it’s a bit expensive.
Thomas: Oh really? How much does it cost?
Emma: €45 per person… But it’s exceptional! The choreographer is very well known.
Claire: Ouch, that’s still €135 for the three of us. It’s true it’s not cheap…
Thomas: And I was thinking we could go see that Molière play at the small local theatre. It’s much cheaper.
Emma: Molière? Seriously? We’ve already studied that in class! “Le Bourgeois gentilhomme”, “L’Avare”… I can’t take it anymore!
Claire: But it’s different to see it on stage, my dear. And besides, you know, classical culture is important.
Thomas: Okay, let’s not argue about this. How about we compromise?
Emma: What kind of compromise?
Thomas: Well, we could go to the cinema to see that French film everyone’s talking about, and on Sunday we could pay a little visit to the local château.
Claire: Ah, that’s a good idea! Which film did you have in mind?
Apparently it’s very moving.
Emma: Yeah, I’ve heard about it… But wait, I can’t on Sunday! I totally forgot, I promised Grandma I’d go see her.
Claire: Oh no! You could’ve told us earlier!
Emma: Sorry, it slipped my mind. With all the tests this week, my head’s elsewhere…
Thomas: Okay, don’t panic. We can move it to next Sunday, can’t we?
Claire: Wait, let me check… Uh, the Sunday after that is my sister’s birthday.
Emma: Oh dear, that’s complicated! What if we did something on Friday evening instead?
Thomas: Friday? But I get home late from work. And don’t you have classes on Saturday morning?
Emma: Yeah, but… I can skip it just this once, can’t I!
Claire: Absolutely not! Your studies come first.
Thomas: Okay, listen, I have an idea. What if we went to that exhibition I was talking about on Saturday morning, and in the afternoon, Emma, can you see your friend?
Emma: And what about the dance performance, then?
Claire: We could save it for another time, when we have a bit more money.
Thomas: Exactly! And tonight we’ll look together at the city’s cultural programme for the weeks ahead.
Emma: Okay… But do you promise we’ll go see that dance performance soon?
Claire: I promise, sweetie! And who knows, maybe Dad will end up liking it!
Thomas: We’ll see, we’ll see… Alright then, is it decided? Museum on Saturday morning?
Emma: Yeah, come on… But we’ll take the time to have a proper lunch afterwards, okay?
Claire: Of course! We know a nice little restaurant near the museum. Deal!
Thomas: Perfect! It’s great to see we can still agree as a family!
Emma: Yeah, well… But next time, let’s start by checking our calendars!
