Clara : Non maman, reste !
Sophie : Ah, tu as peur que maman t’abandonne ?
Clara : Euh… quand papa vient me chercher le weekend.
Clara : Mais il me manque tellement !
Sophie : D’abord, on va apprendre à reconnaître tes émotions.
Clara : Oh oui ! Mais… et si il m’écoute pas ?
Sophie : On va préparer ça ensemble, d’accord ? Tu verras, ça va aller mieux petit à petit.
Clara : D’accord… Euh, Sophie ?
Clara : Merci Sophie ! À bientôt !

DIALOGUE
Sophie : Hello Clara! Come in, come in… You can sit wherever you want. Mom can stay with us for a little while.
Clara : Hello ma’am… Uh, Mom told me I had to come here but… why?
Isabelle : Sweetheart, do you remember? Sophie is going to help you talk about your feelings…
Clara : I don’t want to talk! And anyway, Dad doesn’t come to see me!
Sophie : Ah, I see you’re angry with Dad. That’s normal, you know.
Clara : Well, of course I’m angry! He had promised me we’d go to the zoo on Sunday and… and he cancelled again!
Isabelle : Clara, Dad had urgent work, I explained it to you…
Clara : It’s always the same! Before, when you were together, he didn’t work on Sundays!
Sophie : Isabelle, if you don’t mind, I’ll continue on my own with Clara now.
Isabelle : Of course… See you in a bit, sweetie. I’ll be back in an hour.
Clara : No, Mom, stay! I’m scared…
Sophie : Afraid of what, Clara?
Clara : Well… uh… what if Mom leaves too, forever like Dad?
Sophie : Ah, are you afraid that Mom will abandon you? Mom’s just going to wait outside, okay.
Isabelle : I’ll be in the waiting room, sweetie. I’m not going anywhere, promise.
Clara : Okay… but do you promise, promise?
Isabelle : Promise, promise. Be right back.
Sophie : So, Clara, now that it’s just the two of us… How are you feeling?
Clara : Sad… very, very sad. And angry too. And my stomach often hurts.
Sophie : Oh, that’s interesting. When does your stomach hurt?
Clara : Um… when Dad comes to pick me up at the weekend. Or when he doesn’t come either!
Sophie : You know, it’s perfectly normal to have all those feelings at the same time.
Clara : But why don’t Dad and Mom love each other anymore? Is it my fault?
Sophie : Oh no, Clara! It’s never the children’s fault, never! Grown-ups sometimes…
Clara : But I’ve been mean sometimes! I broke Mom’s vase and…
Sophie : Listen to me: even if you’ve done naughty things, that’s not why your parents are divorcing.
Clara : Are you sure? Because I’d really like them to get back together…
Sophie : I understand, sweetie. But sometimes, grown-ups are happier apart.
Clara : I’m not happy! I cry all the time! My friends at school, they make fun of me…
Sophie : Oh? What do they say?
Clara : Well… that Dad doesn’t want me anymore, that’s why he doesn’t live at home.
Sophie : And you, do you believe them?
Clara : Uh… a little, yes. Otherwise, why would he have left?
Sophie : Dad left home, but he didn’t abandon you, Clara. It’s different.
Clara : But I miss him so much! At night, I can’t sleep…
Clara : Well… that something might happen to Dad… or to Mom… And I sometimes hear Mom crying.
Sophie : Oh dear, you’re carrying a lot on your little shoulders! What if we tried to find some solutions together?
Clara : What do you mean?
Sophie : First, we’re going to learn to recognize your emotions. Right now, how do you feel?
Clara : Uh… less sad than when I arrived. But still a little angry with Dad.
Sophie : Very good! See, you can already put into words what you’re feeling.
Clara : And… could you explain to Dad that I miss him?
Sophie : Hm, that’s a good idea. What if you were the one to explain it to him? With my guidance?
Clara : Oh yes! But… what if he doesn’t listen to me?
Sophie : We’ll prepare that together, okay? You’ll see, it’ll get better little by little.
Clara : Okay… Uh, Sophie? Can I come back to see you?
Sophie : Of course, Clara! We still have plenty to discover together about your emotions.
Clara : Great then! Now can I see Mom again?
Sophie : Yes, go ahead. And well done on that first exchange, you were very brave!
Clara : Thank you, Sophie! See you soon!
