DIALOGUE
Claire : Salut Thomas ! Alors, on se voit toujours samedi ?
Thomas : Ah oui, bien sûr ! J’ai hâte. Tu as une idée d’endroit ?
Thomas : Ben moi, ça me va !
Claire : Thomas, t’as aucun sens de l’aventure !
Claire : Comme tu veux, monsieur Je-râle-tout-le-temps !
Thomas : Bon bon, on verra bien !
Bisous !
English translation
Claire and Thomas, two longtime friends, phone each other to arrange an outing on Saturday afternoon. They have to choose between a large, well-known brasserie in the city centre and the small neighborhood café they usually go to.
DIALOGUE
Claire : Hi Thomas! So, are we still meeting on Saturday?
Thomas : Oh yes, of course! I’m looking forward to it. Do you have a place in mind?
Claire : Well, actually, I was hesitating… We could go to the Café des Arts, you know, the one by the cathedral. Apparently it’s great!
Thomas : Uh… isn’t that a bit fancy for us? And the city centre on a Saturday – what a nightmare to find parking!
Claire : Oh, come on, don’t be such a grump! It would be a bit of a change from our usual little neighbourhood café, wouldn’t it?
Thomas : Marcel’s? What’s wrong with our little Marcel? At least there we’re relaxed, we know everyone…
Claire : Exactly! It’s always the same faces, the same conversations… And Marcel always serves us the same thing without us even ordering!
Thomas : Well, that works for me! A good shot of espresso and off we go – we can chat for hours without a care.
Claire : Thomas, you’ve got no sense of adventure! At the Café des Arts they have a beautiful terrace, and I saw on Instagram that they serve amazing cocktails!
Thomas : Cocktails? At three in the afternoon? Are you kidding me?
Claire : Not necessarily alcoholic, mind you! Mocktails, smoothies… And look around you, we’re getting old!
Thomas : Thanks! So, how much are the drinks at your little trendy paradise?
Claire : Uh… well… I don’t know exactly, but it’s not like we go out every day!
Thomas : Ah! You see, you know it’s overpriced! At Marcel’s we pay fifteen euros for two, tip included!
Claire : Listen, let’s do it this way: if it’s really too expensive, we’ll have a drink and then we’ll leave, okay?
Thomas : Yeah… And what if it’s crowded? You know I can’t stand having to wait around on my feet…
Claire : We can reserve, you dummy! I’ll call and that’s it!
Thomas : Well, that’s not a bad idea… Okay, fine, but on one condition!
Claire : Which one?
Thomas : If it’s rubbish, next time we’ll go back to Marcel’s, no discussion!
Claire : Deal! Come on, trust me, it’s going to be great!
Thomas : I hope so… By the way, where are we meeting? Right there?
Claire : Of course, Cathedral Square, next to the fountain. Take the tram, it’s easier!
Thomas : The tram on a Saturday? Are you crazy! I’m taking my car and never mind the parking!
Claire : Suit yourself, Mr Always-Grumbling! What time then?
Thomas : Three o’clock, does that work for you? That way, if we get bored, we can always go shopping afterwards…
Claire : Perfect! And Thomas… thanks for agreeing. I’m sure we’re going to have a great time!
Thomas : Alright, alright, we’ll see! See you on Saturday then, and don’t forget your wallet just in case!
Claire : Very funny! See you on Saturday, you big pessimist!
Thomas : Ciao Claire, and… uh… reserve it anyway, you never know!
Claire : Already done! Kisses!
