Arranging a spontaneous meeting while running errands

Bref ! Comment ça va au boulot sans moi ?
Sophie : Bah, on survit, hein !
Pourquoi, tu as quelque chose en tête ?
Sophie : Ben justement !
Sophie : Vraiment ? Tu es sûr que ça ne t’embête pas ?
Julien : Mais pas du tout ! Au contraire, ça me fait plaisir. Tu habites toujours rue de la Paix ?
Sophie : Exactement ! Au 15. Dis, vers quelle heure tu pensais ?
Ça te va si on dit 19h30 ?
Julien : Hum, bonne question.
Sophie : T’as raison…
Julien : Ça, ça me plaît !
Tu as des préférences ?
Sophie : Parfait !

Sophie is at the post office to send a parcel to her sister when she runs into Julien, a colleague she hasn’t seen for a few weeks. Both of them have finished their errands and the conversation quickly takes a spontaneous turn toward arranging an impromptu outing.

DIALOGUE

Sophie : Oh! Julien! Well, what a surprise! It’s been ages since we last ran into each other.
Julien : Sophie! Well, I’ll be – it’s a small world! What are you doing around here?
Sophie : I’m sending a parcel to my sister. And you? Do you live around here now?
Julien : No, no, I was just at the bank over there. You know, all those administrative things that pile up… Anyway! How’s work going without me?
Sophie : Well, we’re surviving, huh! But it’s true – we miss you. By the way, what are you doing tonight? I have an idea brewing…
Julien : Uh… nothing special planned. Why, do you have something in mind?
Sophie : Well, actually! How about we grab a bite somewhere? To make up for lost time!
Julien : Oh great! Excellent idea! What kind of restaurant did you have in mind?
Sophie : I know a nice little Italian place not far from here. Or… oh wait, darn! I completely forgot my car is at the garage!
Julien : Oh really? What happened to it?
Sophie : Nothing serious, just the annual service. So I came by metro and, uh… the restaurant I was telling you about is a bit out of the way.
Julien : Don’t worry about that! I’ve got my car. I can come by and pick you up if you want.
Sophie : Really? Are you sure that won’t bother you?
Julien : Not at all! On the contrary, I’d be happy to. Do you still live on Rue de la Paix?
Sophie : Exactly! At number 15. So, what time were you thinking? Because I still have a couple of errands to do in town.
Julien : Well… it’s already 4:30 PM. Is 7:30 PM OK with you? That gives us time to get ready without rushing.
Sophie : Perfect! But wait… are you sure we’ll get a table without a reservation?
Julien : Hmm, good question. On a Saturday night… it might be tricky, indeed.
Sophie : Oh dear! I hadn’t thought of that! What if we changed our plans? We could do something more spontaneous?
Julien : Like what, for example?
Sophie : Well… we could pick up some takeout and go have a picnic in the park! With such beautiful weather, it would be a shame to stay cooped up, wouldn’t it?
Julien : Hey, that’s an original idea! But, uh… do you think it won’t be too cold tonight?
Sophie : You’re right… In November, as soon as the sun goes down, it’s freezing! So, plan B: let’s have a few drinks at my place and order pizzas?
Julien : I like that! It’s much more relaxed. And we can chat in peace without the restaurant noise.
Sophie : Great! I’ll go pick up some snacks and something to drink. Do you have any preferences?
Julien : No, I trust you! Oh, just avoid red wine, I hate it.
Sophie : Got it! White or rosé, then?
Julien : A little rosé would be perfect! Or beer if you prefer something less formal.
Sophie : We’ll do both so we’ll have a choice! Right, I’m off to do my shopping. See you in a bit then!
Julien : Hold on! What pizzas should we order? That way I can think about it on the way.
Sophie : Oh, that’s true! I like a Reine or a four-cheese. And you?
Julien : Chorizo for me! Or an Orientale, I love things that are a bit spicy.
Sophie : Perfect! We’ll order when we get there. Alright, 7:30 sharp in front of my place!
Julien : Got it! Ah, I can’t wait! It’ll be great to get together like that.
Sophie : Me too! Come on, get going, or we’ll end up chatting for another hour! See you tonight!
Julien : See you tonight! And thanks for that great spontaneous idea!
