ça veut dire qu’on verra mal ?
Thomas: Super ! Merci pour vos conseils et votre patience !
Employée: Je vous en prie ! Bon spectacle et bonne soirée !
English translation
Sarah and Thomas, a young Parisian couple, are going to the Opéra Bastille to attend a contemporary dance performance. They arrive at the box office to buy their tickets and want to get the best possible seats with an unobstructed view of the stage. The box office attendant will help them make the right choice.
DIALOGUE
Box office attendant: Good evening! How can I help you?
Sarah: Good evening! We’d like two tickets for tonight’s performance, um… “Métamorphoses,” I think.
Box office attendant: Perfect! We still have a few seats available. Do you have a preference for where you’d like to sit?
Thomas: Well, we’d mainly like to have a good view of the stage. It’s important to us; we don’t want to miss a thing!
Box office attendant: Ah, very good! In that case, I wouldn’t recommend seats that are too far to the sides. For dance, it’s best to sit near the center.
Sarah: Okay. And what about height? Orchestra or balcony?
Box office attendant: It depends on your budget… Orchestra seats, rows 5 to 12, are ideal. You can see the dancers’ movements perfectly.
Thomas: How much does it cost?
Box office attendant: €85 per seat in the central orchestra, row 8, for example.
Sarah: Ouch! That’s a bit expensive for us… What do you have that’s cheaper with a decent view?
Box office attendant: Hm… On the first balcony, I have two seats side by side, row 3. They’re €55 each and honestly, the view is excellent!
Thomas: First balcony, row 3… We won’t be too far away, will we?
Box office attendant: Not at all! Look, here’s the seating chart. See? You’ll be just above the orchestra, with a perfect bird’s-eye view.
Sarah: Great! And will we be able to see the dancers’ expressions clearly?
Box office attendant: Absolutely! Some even prefer the balcony for dance. You get a wonderful overall view of the formations.
Thomas: Okay, that works for us! Can we see those seats?
Box office attendant: Of course! So… seats 15 and 16, row 3, first balcony facing the stage. That’s perfect, you’ll be nicely centered.
Sarah: Wait… uh, isn’t there a problem with that row? I read somewhere that there was some renovation work…
Box office attendant: Renovation work? Ah! Maybe you mean the second balcony? Indeed, part of it is closed for renovation.
Thomas: No, no, Sarah is right! My colleague told me that on the first balcony too, there was scaffolding blocking the view…
Box office attendant: Oh no! You’re right! I had completely forgotten! Seats 12 to 20 in row 3 are indeed affected.
Sarah: Good grief! What else do you have, then?
Box office attendant: Let me check… Ah! I have two orchestra seats, but on the left side. Row 6, they’re €70 each.
Thomas: On the side… does that mean we’ll have a bad view?
Box office attendant: Well, you’ll have a slightly side-on view, but it’s row 6, so very close! And besides, the dancers move around a lot, don’t they!
Sarah: Mmh… What about the second balcony then? In the part that’s not under construction?
Box office attendant: Oh yes! Row 1 of the second balcony, central seats! Only €40 and an extraordinary panoramic view!
Thomas: Second balcony, first row… Won’t we be too high up?
Box office attendant: Listen, for contemporary dance it’s actually an advantage! You’ll see every figure, every movement… It’s spectacular!
Sarah: And no problems with the view? No pillars or anything?
Box office attendant: No problem! Those seats are unobstructed. Look at the plan… there, seats 8 and 9.
Thomas: Well, what do you think, Sarah? €40 is within our budget…
Sarah: Yes, and at least we’ll have an unobstructed view! Let’s take those seats!
Box office attendant: Perfect! So two seats, second balcony, row 1, seats 8 and 9. That comes to €80 in total.
Thomas: Do you accept credit cards?
Box office attendant: Of course! Here are your tickets. The show starts at 8:30 PM; I recommend arriving fifteen minutes early.
Sarah: Thank you very much! Oh, and what time is the intermission?
Box office attendant: Usually around 9:15 PM. Great show, by the way! You’re in for a treat!
Thomas: Great! Thanks for your advice and your patience!
Box office attendant: You’re welcome! Enjoy the show and have a good evening!
