Si jamais tu as besoin, n’hésite pas à me demander.
Sarah : Chouette ! Ça c’est du concret ! Tu sais quoi ? Ça me redonne déjà le moral.
Léa : Parfait ! Alors, on commence quand ? Ce week-end, ça te va pour bosser sur ton CV ?
Sarah : Samedi après-midi ? Mais… euh… j’ai un petit souci. Mon ordinateur portable a rendu l’âme hier soir !
Léa : Ah zut ! Bon, pas de panique. Tu peux venir chez moi, j’ai tout ce qu’il faut.
Sarah : Décidément, tu penses à tout ! Comment je peux te remercier ?
Léa : En retrouvant du boulot rapidement ! Allez, on va y arriver.
Sarah : Tu as mille fois raison.
English translation
Sarah is going through a difficult time after losing her job last week. She talks to her friend Léa, who, instead of offering mere words of comfort, decides to provide concrete, practical support to help her through this ordeal.
DIALOGUE
Sarah : Léa, I really need to talk to someone… I feel completely lost since I was laid off.
Léa : Oh dear, poor Sarah! Tell me everything. What exactly happened?
Sarah : Well, they cut my position for economic reasons. Overnight, just like that! I really don’t know how I’m going to get by.
Léa : Listen, instead of telling you “everything’s going to be fine” and things like that… what would you say if we actually got to work on it in a practical way?
Sarah : Uh… what do you mean by that?
Léa : Well, I’ve got experience in recruitment. I could help you rework your CV and cover letter. What do you think?
Sarah : Oh really? You’d do that for me? That’s so kind, but… I wouldn’t want to bother you.
Léa : Not at all! I actually have contacts at a few companies. I can make a couple of calls if you want.
Sarah : Are you serious? Wow, I wasn’t expecting that… Usually people just tell me “hang in there” and that’s it.
Léa : Exactly! Words are all well and good, but action is better. And financially, will you be okay for the moment?
Sarah : Uh… well, I have a bit of savings but… with the rent and everything, it’s going to be tight.
Léa : Alright. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to ask me. I can help you out until you find something.
Sarah : Oh no, Léa, I can’t accept that! What you’re offering is already more than enough.
Léa : Listen, are we friends or not? Besides, you really helped me when I moved last year!
Sarah : That’s true, but… Wait, are you sure your contacts can really help me? In what area?
Léa : Well, there’s Marc who works in communications, like you. And Sandrine who has her own advertising agency.
Sarah : Great! That’s something concrete! You know what? That already cheers me up.
Léa : Perfect! So, when do we start? Is this weekend OK to work on your CV?
Sarah : Saturday afternoon? But… uh… I have a little problem. My laptop died last night!
Léa : Oh no! Okay, don’t panic. You can come to my place, I’ve got everything you need.
Sarah : You really think of everything! How can I thank you?
Léa : By finding a job quickly! Come on, we’ll manage. And I know someone who sells cheap second-hand computers.
Sarah : Oh, that’s interesting! You see, that’s exactly the kind of help I need.
Léa : Yeah, of course! Instead of just complaining, we might as well act together, right?
Sarah : You’re absolutely right. It’s a nice change from my sister’s “oh, you poor thing”!
Léa : Haha! She does that too? Okay, here we go. I’ll text you my contacts’ details tonight.
Sarah : And I’m getting all my documents ready. Léa, you can’t imagine how relieved I am!
Léa : That’s what friends are for! Okay, shall we meet on Saturday at 2 p.m. at my place?
Sarah : Perfect! I’ll bring coffee and croissants to thank you!
Léa : Now you’re talking! We’ll do great work together, you’ll see.
Sarah : I’m sure of it. Thanks for not just telling me that everything will be all right, but for really helping me make things better!
Léa : You’re welcome! See you on Saturday then, and keep your spirits up until then!
