Tu plaisantes ?
Tu as l’appli RATP ?
Léa : Oui, attends… Je regarde… Alors, euh…
Bon d’accord…
Super ! Et il passe quand, le prochain ?
Léa : Dans… quinze minutes. Allez, on y va ! Courage !
Thomas : Bon, OK…
Allez, viens, on court !
Thomas : Attends, attends ! J’ai oublié mon parapluie chez Marc…
Léa : Tant pis ! On va être trempés de toute façon. Allez, go !
Thomas : Tu sais quoi ?
On aura quelque chose à raconter demain.
Thomas : Une aventure…
Tu avais raison. Bon voyage alors !
Léa : Tu vois ! Parfois il faut savoir prendre des risques ! Allez, monte !
English translation
It’s Saturday night around midnight. Léa and Thomas are leaving a party at some friends’ place in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. They live in the 7th and need to get home. They find themselves facing a typical dilemma for Parisian night owls: take a taxi or use night-time public transport.
DIALOGUE
Léa : Well, um… we need to get home now. Do you think the metro is still running?
Thomas : Uh, no, look at the time! It’s past midnight, the metro’s stopped. But we have the Noctiliens, right?
Léa : Oh yeah, that’s true! Night buses… But honestly, I can’t be bothered to wait out in the cold.
Thomas : Hey, look! There’s a taxi coming right now. Shall we take it?
Léa : Wait, wait… How much do you think it’ll cost us? From the 18th to the 7th at this hour…
Thomas : Well, I’d say… twenty-five, thirty euros maybe? With the night rate…
Léa : Thirty euros?! Are you kidding? We can split it in half, but still… That’s expensive!
Thomas : Yeah, sure… But we’ll be home in twenty minutes at most.
Léa : Hm… Or we could take the Noctilien. It only costs the price of a regular ticket.
Thomas : Okay, but we need to see which bus goes that way. Do you have the RATP app?
Léa : Yes, wait… I’m looking… So, uh… There’s the N31 that goes towards République, but then you’d have to transfer…
Thomas : Change? At this hour? Meh… And how long would it take in total?
Léa : Well… an hour, maybe more with the wait and the transfer.
Thomas : An hour?! Are you kidding me?! Besides, look at the weather!
Léa : It’s true it’s starting to rain… Darn! Well, taxi then?
Thomas : Wait, let me check my Uber app… It might be cheaper.
Léa : Good idea! So?
Thomas : Uh… twenty-two euros… That’s already better than a regular taxi.
Léa : Yeah, but it’s still expensive… Listen, I’m saying we try the bus. At worst, we’ll be a bit tired tomorrow.
Thomas : Are you sure? We’ll have to walk to the bus stop, wait in the rain…
Léa : Well yeah, but we’ll save twenty euros! And it’s more eco-friendly, right?
Thomas : Oh, the eco-friendly argument now! All right… But where’s the Noctilien stop?
Léa : According to the app, it’s… uh… three hundred meters. Place de Clichy.
Thomas : Three hundred metres in the rain… Great! And when’s the next one due?
Léa : In… fifteen minutes. Come on, let’s go! Hang in there!
Thomas : Okay, fine… But if we miss it, we’ll take a taxi, okay?
Léa : Deal! Come on, let’s run!
Thomas : Wait, wait! I forgot my umbrella at Marc’s…
Léa : Oh well! We’ll be soaked anyway. Come on, go!
Thomas : You know what? Actually, I’m already regretting it… We should’ve taken a taxi!
Léa : No, no! Look, we’re almost there! Besides, it’s good exercise!
Thomas : Exercise… At half past midnight, in the rain… You have a funny idea of sport!
Léa : Ah! There’s the stop! And look, there are already people waiting.
Thomas : Well, at least we’re not the only crazy ones taking the night bus!
Léa : See? And anyway, it’ll be an adventure! We’ll have something to tell tomorrow.
Thomas : An adventure… If you say so! Well, I just hope we won’t have to wait an hour…
Léa : Look! The headlights over there! It’s our bus! We got lucky after all!
Thomas : Well, would you look at that! You were right. Have a good trip then!
Léa : See? Sometimes you have to take risks! Come on, get on!
