Celui dont tu me parles depuis des mois ?
Marie: Ouais, exactement lui. Ben… euh… je me suis déclarée hier soir.
Lucas: Ah bon ?
Me cacher ?
*sanglote* Je me sens complètement idiote, Lucas.
Lucas: Hey, hey…
Marie: Le courage ? J’appelle ça plutôt de la stupidité ! J’aurais dû garder mes sentiments pour moi.
Lucas: Non, Marie, écoute-moi bien.
Lucas: Exactement.
Marie: *renifle* Tu dis ça pour me rassurer…
Lucas: Tu as raison, excuse-moi.
Marie: *sourire plus franc* Ouais, ça me dit bien.

DIALOGUE
Marie: Hi Lucas… Thanks for coming so quickly.
Lucas: Hey, Marie! Are you okay? You sounded really upset on the phone.
Marie: *sighs* No, I’m not okay at all, honestly. It’s about Thomas…
Lucas: Oh, the guy from your psychology department at university? The one you’ve been talking about for months?
Marie: Yeah, that’s him exactly. Well… uh… I confessed my feelings last night.
Lucas: Oh really? And? You told me you two got along really well!
Marie: Exactly – that’s the worst part! We spent so much time together, we laughed, we understood each other… I was sure he felt something too.
Lucas: And what exactly did he tell you?
Marie: *voice trembling* He told me he only saw me as a friend. That I was “amazing” but… well, he didn’t love me that way.
Lucas: Ouch… That hurts, doesn’t it?
Marie: You can’t imagine! The thing is, he was super nice, you know? He apologized a thousand times, he said he didn’t want to hurt me…
Lucas: But that makes things even harder, doesn’t it?
Marie: Exactly! If at least he’d been unpleasant, I could have told myself I was wrong about him. But… *almost crying* He was still the adorable guy I thought I knew.
Lucas: Listen, Marie, I know it’s hard to hear right now, but…
Marie: No, wait! The worst part is he told me he hoped we could still be friends. How are you supposed to do that? How do you pretend nothing happened?
Lucas: Uh… well, maybe you need to give each other a little space first?
Marie: Yeah, but we have classes together three times a week! And we’re in the same friend group. What am I supposed to do? Hide?
Lucas: Ah shoot, I hadn’t thought of that… It’s complicated, indeed.
Marie: And you know the worst part? This morning he texted me to see if I was okay. It hurt me even more!
Lucas: Why? That’s nice of him, isn’t it?
Marie: But that’s exactly it! It proves even more that he cares about me, but not in the right way! *sob* I feel like a complete idiot, Lucas.
Lucas: Hey, hey… You’re not stupid at all! You had the courage to tell him how you felt. That’s huge!
Marie: Courage? I’d call that stupidity! I should have kept my feelings to myself.
Lucas: No, Marie, listen to me. You would have regretted it for the rest of your life if you hadn’t tried. At least now you know where you stand.
Marie: Fixated, yes… Fixated on the fact that he’ll never love me! *sob*
Lucas: *takes her hand* Come on, sweetheart… I know it’s awful right now, but it’ll pass. You’ll see.
Marie: Do you really think so? Because right now, I feel like I’ll never get over it.
Lucas: I’m sure of it! You know, I went through that too. With Sophie, remember?
Marie: Oh right, that’s true… She’d told you she was already in a relationship, right?
Lucas: Exactly. And I thought I was going to die! But look, now it almost makes me smile.
Marie: How long did it take you to get over it?
Lucas: Uh… *hesitates* A few months, I’d say. But you’re stronger than me!
Marie: *sniffles* You’re just saying that to make me feel better…
Lucas: Not at all! And besides, who knows? Maybe when you get to know each other better, her feelings will change?
Marie: No, Lucas, please don’t give me false hope. I must accept that it’s over before it has even begun.
Lucas: You’re right, I’m sorry. But keep in mind that there are plenty of other people who will appreciate you for who you are!
Marie: *smiles faintly* Thank you, you’re adorable. By the way, do you want us to order something? I haven’t eaten since yesterday…
Lucas: Good idea! How about we have a movie night tonight? With ice cream and everything?
Marie: *smiles more openly* Yeah, that sounds great to me. You’re such a great friend, you know that?
Lucas: And you, you’re someone exceptional. Thomas doesn’t know what he’s missing!
Marie: Alright, let’s say it’s his loss! So, what should we eat?
