Tu as l’air vraiment énervée.
Sophie : Tu rigoles ?
Thomas : Oh, ça me rappelle ma grand-mère !
Sophie : Ouais… tu as peut-être raison.
Sophie : Tu as raison…

Sophie and Thomas, two friends in their thirties, meet in a Parisian café after work. DIALOGUE
Sophie : Oh, Thomas! You can’t imagine what happened to me on the way here… I’m really fed up with the way people drive in this city!
Thomas : Oh, what happened this time? You seem really upset.
Sophie : Get this – a guy in a BMW cut me off on the ring road, then had the nerve to give me the finger when I honked!
Thomas : Oh really? That’s ridiculous! Um… are you sure you hadn’t done anything that could have annoyed him?
Sophie : No, of course not! I was calmly in the right-hand lane, keeping my distance… Honestly, I don’t understand why people are so aggressive behind the wheel.
Thomas : It’s true that since I started taking the subway, I’ve noticed how tense drivers are. But then, you’re in terrible traffic…
Sophie : Exactly! We’re all in the same boat, so why act like savages? And don’t get me started on people who use their phones while driving!
Thomas : Oh man, that’s the worst! The other day, I saw a woman putting on her makeup in a traffic jam with her phone wedged between her ear and shoulder…
Sophie : Are you kidding? That’s just ridiculous! And people who never use their turn signals – you know them?
Thomas : Huh? Oh yes, that annoys me too when I’m on my bike! They change lanes without warning… It’s really dangerous.
Sophie : Exactly! And then there’s that habit of passing on the right… I was always taught you pass on the left, period!
Thomas : Uh, Sophie… sorry, but you too sometimes pass on the right when we go out of town together, don’t you?
Sophie : Ah… well… I mean… okay, fine, I do it when someone is really crawling along in the left lane!
Thomas : You see! That’s exactly what I mean. Everyone makes excuses for their own slip-ups…
Sophie : Yeah… maybe, but at least I don’t tailgate people! Those people who follow you at two metres, it’s scary!
Thomas : That’s for sure! But tell me, don’t you think it gets worse with age? Young drivers seem more respectful to me…
Sophie : Are you kidding? Those youngsters with their souped-up cars making noise at 2 a.m.? Real respectful!
Thomas : No, I’m not talking about those! I mean the “normal” young people. They had stricter training than we did, didn’t they?
Sophie : Hmm… that’s possible. That said, the problem is also older drivers who drive really slowly and hold up all the traffic!
Thomas : Oh, that reminds me of my grandmother! She wears her sunglasses even when it’s raining and she drives at 30 km/h on the boulevards…
Sophie : Oh no, not your grandmother! She’s adorable! But you have to admit that at some point she might need to retake her driving test…
Thomas : Uh… you say that, but my dad told me that the other day you mixed up the accelerator and the brake when leaving their place!
Sophie : What? No, not at all! I just… well, their car is different from mine! And come on, anyone can make a mistake!
Thomas : Well there you go! You see, nobody’s perfect. In the end, we all have our little faults behind the wheel…
Sophie : Yeah… you might be right. But still, there’s a difference between making a small mistake and being downright dangerous!
Thomas : Absolutely! What bothers me most is the lack of courtesy. Nobody waves to say thank you anymore…
Sophie : That’s true! Before, when someone let you pass, you’d wave to say thanks. Now, nothing at all!
Thomas : And pedestrian right-of-way? Don’t even get me started! Yesterday I almost got run over on a pedestrian crossing…
Sophie : Well, I must admit that I, too, sometimes don’t see pedestrians… especially when it’s dark and raining.
Thomas : At least you admit it! Maybe we should all make an effort, right? Be more patient, more understanding…
Sophie : You’re right… Next time a driver does something nasty to me, I’ll try to take a deep breath before I get angry.
Thomas : Great! And I promise to stop grumbling at drivers when I’m on my bike!
Sophie : Deal! Well, shall we order another coffee to celebrate our good resolutions?
Thomas : With pleasure! And promise me you’ll be careful on the road on your way home, okay?
Sophie : Promise! I’ll be the calmest driver in Paris!
