Commenting on the first date with a friend (story)

Sophie : Ah bon ? Explique-moi ça ! Tu m’intrigues là. Commence par le début !
Marie : Ben, il m’a donné rendez-vous devant le cinéma à 19h30. Déjà, j’étais super stressée, tu sais bien…
Sophie : Oui, je me doute !
Marie : Si ! Thomas ! Mon ex ! Avec sa nouvelle copine !
Sophie : Quelle poisse ! Comment tu as géré ça ?
Sophie : Ah, parfait !
Marie : Tu as raison.

Marie meets her best friend Sophie in a café the day after her first date with Julien, a colleague she met at a company party. Sophie, curious and impatient, is waiting for all the details of that long-awaited evening.
DIALOGUE
Sophie : Come on, come on! Tell me everything! How did your date with handsome Julien go?
Marie : Oh my, Sophie… It’s complicated. Uh… how shall I put it… it was both amazing and disastrous!
Sophie : Oh? Explain that to me! You’re keeping me in suspense. Start from the beginning!
Marie : Well, he asked me to meet him in front of the cinema at 7:30 p.m. I was already so nervous, you know…
Sophie : I can imagine! And then?
Marie : He was twenty minutes late! I thought he’d stood me up. I was about to leave when he came running.
Sophie : Darn! Not a great start… Did he at least give an explanation?
Marie : Yes, fortunately! His metro was delayed because of an incident involving a passenger. He was really sorry, you could tell.
Sophie : Okay, it happens to everyone. And the movie?
Marie : Ah, that’s when it gets funny… We had planned to see this romantic comedy, you know, “L’Amour en héritage”?
Sophie : Yeah, I saw the trailers. It looked like a nice movie.
Marie : Well, actually, there were no seats left! Sold out! So we ended up standing in front of the poster, not knowing what to do.
Sophie : Oh no! And what did you do?
Marie : Julien suggested we go for a drink and take a walk. It turned out to be an excellent idea!
Sophie : Ah, great! Now that’s improvisation! Where did he take you?
Marie : In that cozy little bar near the Seine, “Le Procope”. Do you know it? Dimly lit atmosphere, jazz music playing in the background…
Sophie : Yes, I see! Such a romantic place. And the conversation?
Marie : Well, that’s when I discovered we had lots in common! We talked about travel, music, our dreams…
Sophie : Great! I have a feeling there’s a “but” coming, isn’t there?
Marie : Uh… yes. Around 10 p.m., we were walking along the quays when we ran into… guess who?
Sophie : Oh no… Don’t tell me that…
Marie : Yes! Thomas! My ex! With his new girlfriend!
Sophie : What rotten luck! How did you handle that?
Marie : I completely panicked, Sophie. I was red as a tomato. Thomas came over to say hello…
Sophie : And Julien, how did he react?
Marie : He was perfect! He took my hand, introduced me as his girlfriend, and naturally struck up a conversation.
Sophie : Wow! That Julien’s resourceful! He seems like a real gentleman.
Marie : Yes, but afterwards, it caused a misunderstanding… When Thomas left, Julien asked me if I was still in love with him.
Sophie : Ouch! And what did you tell him?
Marie : I was honest. I explained to him that it had been over for six months and that I was ready to move on.
Sophie : Good! And him, was he reassured?
Marie : I think so, yes. We kept walking and things relaxed again. We even laughed as we talked about our worst dates!
Sophie : Ah, perfect! And how did the evening end?
Marie : He walked me back to my place. In front of my door, there was that slightly awkward moment, you know… We didn’t really know how to say goodbye.
Sophie : Hehe! The famous moment! And then?
Marie : Well… he kissed me on the cheek, but I could tell he was hesitating. Me too, actually!
Sophie : And now? Has he contacted you again?
Marie : Actually! He sent me a message this morning to say he’d had a great evening despite the hiccups.
Sophie : That’s a good sign! Is he suggesting a second date?
Marie : He suggests we go to the flea market this weekend. We discovered we both share a passion for thrift shopping.
Sophie : Perfect! You’ll accept, I hope?
Marie : Uh… yes, I think so. But I still have some doubts… What if it doesn’t work out between us?
Sophie : Listen, Marie, we’ll never know if we don’t try! Besides, that guy seems really nice.
Marie : You’re right. Okay, I’ll tell him that Saturday is fine!
Sophie : There! And this time, I hope everything goes smoothly!
Marie : Fingers crossed! Thanks for your advice, Sophie. You’re a friend worth your weight in gold!
