Cleaning plan for the entire month

Thomas : Euh… ouais, t’as raison.
Thomas : Un planning ? Genre, jour par jour ? Ça me paraît un peu… euh… excessif, non ?
Marie : Thomas ! On avait dit qu’on allait faire ça ensemble. Tu peux pas toujours tout reporter !
Thomas : D’accord, d’accord… Bon, qu’est-ce que tu proposes exactement ?
Marie : Ben voilà, j’ai pensé diviser par zones. La première semaine : salon et cuisine. La deuxième : chambre et salle de bain. La troisième…
Thomas : Attends, attends !
Thomas : Ah zut ! Pas mes vieux t-shirts de concert, hein !
Marie : Thomas… tu les as pas mis depuis trois ans !
Thomas : Et alors ? Ils ont une valeur sentimentale !
Marie : D’accord, d’accord… on garde tes précieux t-shirts.
Thomas : Tiens, ça me donne une idée !

English translation

Marie and Thomas, a couple who have been living together for two years, find themselves in their living room on a Sunday morning. Their apartment is starting to get messy and they decide to set up a major cleaning plan for the whole month of March. However, their busy schedules and their different ideas about tidying up will complicate the planning.

DIALOGUE

Marie : Okay Thomas, that’s it! I can’t take this mess anymore. Look at this kitchen… and don’t even get me started on the bedroom!
Thomas : Uh… yeah, you’re right. But you know I’ve never been very good at cleaning.
Marie : Exactly! That’s why we need to get organized. I was thinking we could make a schedule for the whole month. What do you think?
Thomas : A schedule? Like, day by day? That seems a bit… uh… excessive, doesn’t it?
Marie : No! Look, I’ve already started jotting down a few things. Next weekend, we could tackle the big spring clean in the living room.
Thomas : Oh? But I was planning to watch the match with the guys on Saturday…
Marie : Thomas! We said we’d do this together. You can’t keep putting everything off!
Thomas : Okay, okay… Well, what exactly do you propose?
Marie : Okay, so I thought we’d divide it up by area. The first week: living room and kitchen. The second: bedroom and bathroom. The third…
Thomas : Wait, wait! One room a week? But we’re going to be spending our evenings on this!
Marie : No, hear me out! We’ll be smart about it. For example, Monday evening we’ll just put the magazines away and vacuum the living room. On Tuesday we’ll tackle the kitchen, clean the fridge and sort through the cupboards…
Thomas : Mmm… and Wednesday?
Marie : Wednesday, a day off! Or, if we have the energy, we can dust the furniture.
Thomas : Ah, that’s better. And what about the bathroom? Because, you know… you’re the one who leaves all your beauty products lying around on the sink.
Marie : Hey! That’s not true! And besides, you’re the one who never cleans the shower doors!
Thomas : Okay, okay… we’re not going to argue about that. Continue your plan.
Marie : So, second week: we start by sorting through our clothes. We’ll keep what we actually wear and donate the rest.
Thomas : Oh darn! Not my old concert t-shirts, huh!
Marie : Thomas… you haven’t worn them in three years!
Thomas : So what? They have sentimental value!
Marie : Okay, okay… we’ll keep your precious t-shirts. But we’re still going to sort through things, right?
Thomas : Yeah, I’m fine with that. And what about the cleaning supplies? We’ll have to buy more, won’t we?
Marie : Good question! I made a list. We need dishwashing liquid, glass cleaner, and… ah! Trash bags – we’re out.
Thomas : Great, a trip to the supermarket coming up…
Marie : Come on, don’t make that face! We can go together Saturday morning, before the big cleanup.
Thomas : Uh… actually, about Saturday… I forgot to tell you that my mother is coming for lunch.
Marie : What?! Your mother? But Thomas! You’re telling me this now?
Thomas : Well… she called last night, while you were in the shower. I forgot to tell you about it.
Marie : Good heavens! The apartment absolutely has to be spotless then! Your mother notices everything!
Thomas : No, you’re exaggerating… Well… maybe a little.
Marie : A little? Last time she commented on the dust on the TV!
Thomas : So, what do we do then?
Marie : Let’s change the schedule! Friday evening, we’ll do a quick clean: vacuum everywhere, tidy the living room, deep-clean the kitchen.
Thomas : And Saturday morning?
Marie : Saturday morning, we’ll take care of the bathroom and dust all the furniture. Oh! And we absolutely have to wash the balcony windows.
Thomas : Hey, that gives me an idea! What if we asked my mother to help us? She loves cleaning!
Marie : Are you kidding? No way! I don’t want her to think that I’m incapable of keeping our apartment in order.
Thomas : No, she won’t think that…
Marie : Thomas, we’re doing it my way, period. So, do you agree with the new schedule?
Thomas : Okay… fine. But we’ll split the tasks fairly, right?
Marie : Of course! You take care of the vacuuming and the windows. I’ll do the kitchen and the bathroom.
Thomas : And for the following weeks?
Marie : We’ll take it as we go. But the idea is to keep things clean once we’ve got everything back in order.
Thomas : All right, let’s get started then! Let’s get to work!
Marie : Thank you, sweetheart! You’ll see, we’re going to have a beautiful apartment!
