Attempt to overcome shyness in a new class

Clara: Ah chouette !
Dis-moi, tu as choisi tes spécialités comment ?
Tu as un petit accent !
Thomas: Bon allez, on y va ?
Je me sens déjà moins perdue !

English translation

It’s the first week of classes in a new final-year class. Léa, a shy student who has just moved, hesitates to fit in with the group. During the break, she watches her classmates from afar. Thomas, a friendly boy in the class, notices her loneliness and decides to approach her to break the ice.
DIALOGUE
Thomas: Hi! You’re new, aren’t you? I saw you in philosophy class yesterday, but we haven’t introduced ourselves yet.
Léa: Um… yes, that’s right. My name is Léa. I just moved to the area.
Thomas: I’m Thomas! Welcome to our little high school! So, do you like it so far?
Léa: Well… it’s hard to say. Everything’s still new to me, and… I don’t know anyone.
Thomas: Oh, you’ll see, the teachers are pretty cool here. And our class-we’re a great bunch! Where exactly are you from?
Léa: From Lyon. My dad was transferred, so… yeah. I had to leave everything: my friends, my old high school…
Thomas: Ah, I get it, that must be tough. But hey, Lyon is amazing! You’re lucky to have lived there. I’m dreaming of studying there after the baccalauréat!
Léa: Really? What do you want to study?
Thomas: I’m leaning toward a science preparatory program, and I’ve heard the ones in Lyon are excellent. What about you, do you have any idea what you want to study?
Léa: Uh… I’m still torn between studying literature or psychology. But with this change, I feel like I’ve lost my bearings.
Thomas: Oh, speaking of which! Clara, come over here!
Clara: What’s going on?
Thomas: This is Léa, she just arrived from Lyon. Léa, this is Clara – she also wants to study literature!
Clara: Oh great! Hi Léa! Did Thomas tell you we have Mrs. Dubois for French? She’s really demanding but fascinating!
Léa: No, he hasn’t told me everything yet… Have you known each other for a long time?
Clara: Oh wow, it’s been years! We were already together in middle school. Tell me, how did you choose your specializations?
Léa: I took French, history-geography and economics and social sciences. And you?
Thomas: I’m doing maths, physics and chemistry, and life and earth sciences. Clara’s doing literature, languages and history, if I remember correctly?
Clara: Exactly! By the way, Léa, are you taking English or German as your LV2?
Léa: English… Why?
Clara: Darn! I was hoping you’d take German like me. There are only eight of us in the class, it’s more fun!
Thomas: Well, English isn’t bad either! And besides, Mr. Johnson is funny, even if sometimes he gives us a headache with his Cockney accent!
Léa: A Cockney accent? Seriously?
Clara: Oh yes! At first we didn’t understand anything at all! But we get used to it, right, Thomas?
Thomas: Totally! So, tell me, Léa, where do you live now?
Léa: Near the city centre, on Acacias Street. My parents found a small apartment…
Clara: Oh wow, that’s really close to my place! We could come together in the mornings if you want!
Léa: Really? That would… that would be great! I’m taking the bus for now, but I’m not very familiar with the bus schedules.
Thomas: The bus? That’s rubbish! Clara’s right, you can go together. And that way you won’t be all on your own anymore.
Léa: You’re really nice… In Lyon, it took me months to make friends.
Clara: It’s different here! We’re a small class, everyone knows each other. Hey, do you want to come eat with us in the cafeteria?
Léa: Uh… I was planning to eat my sandwich outside…
Thomas: Come on, come along! You should meet the others too. There’s Maxime, who’s passionate about film, Sophie who does theatre…
Clara: And the cafeteria food isn’t that bad! Okay, fine, sometimes it’s… kind of odd, but we have a great time!
Léa: Okay… but if I say something odd, it’s because I’m still a bit lost!
Thomas: No, you’ll see! And besides, with your Lyon accent, we’ll be the ones who sound weird!
Clara: Oh right, that’s true! You have a little accent! That’s cute!
Léa: Oh really? I don’t even notice it!
Thomas: Alright, shall we go? The break’s almost over and then we have class with Mr. Bertrand…
Clara: Oh no, history and geography! I completely forgot to study the lesson on the Cold War!
Léa: The Cold War? But we covered it last week at my old high school! I can help you if you want!
Clara: Seriously? You’re an angel! In the end, your arrival is great news!
Thomas: See, Léa, you’re going to fit in really well here! So, shall we head to the cafeteria now?
Léa: Yes… and thank you. Thank you both very much. I already feel less lost!
