Assessment of progress after several months of the course

Sophie : Chouette ! Ça me tente bien… Mais attends, c’est quand exactement ?
Marc : Du 15 au 17 mars, un weekend. Pourquoi ?
Sophie : Tu as raison…
Marc : Ah, merci ! Ça me fait plaisir.

Marc : So, Sophie, we’ve now been working together for six months. How do you feel compared to when you first started?
Marc : So, Sophie, we’ve now been working together for six months. How do you feel compared to when you first started?
Sophie : Uh… well, it’s funny you ask me that today! I was actually thinking about it last night. I think I’ve made quite a bit of progress, haven’t I?
Marc : Oh, absolutely! Do you remember your first class? You didn’t even dare raise your arms above your head!
Sophie : Oh yes, that’s true! I was so stiff… like a board! And now, look, I can do this!
Marc : Go on, show me that movement we worked on last week.
Sophie : The one with the spirals? Wait… there! So, what do you think?
Marc : That’s much better! Your body has really become more fluid. But… there’s still something that’s bothering me a little.
Sophie : Oh? What is it? Did I make a mistake?
Marc : No, no, technically it’s fine. It’s more… how to say… your overall demeanor. I feel like you still hold yourself back sometimes.
Sophie : You think so? I thought I’d overcome my shyness! Darn it…
Marc : Listen, don’t take it personally, okay! On the contrary, it’s perfectly normal at your level. By the way, let’s talk a bit about your goals now.
Sophie : My goals? Uh… well, at first I just wanted to unwind after work, you know!
Marc : Yes, and now? Because honestly, Sophie, you have real potential. I’d like to propose something to you.
Sophie : Oh? Tell me everything!
Marc : Well, there’s an intensive workshop taking place next month. Three full days with other teachers. It could really help you take the next step.
Sophie : Great! I’m really interested… But wait, when is it exactly?
Marc : March 15 to 17, a weekend. Why?
Sophie : Oh no! What bad luck… It’s exactly the weekend I have to go to my cousin’s wedding in Lyon.
Marc : Ah, too bad! Well, it’s not the end of the world. There will surely be others.
Sophie : Are you sure? Because I really want to make further progress. These past six months have given me a taste for dancing!
Marc : I’m sure of it! In the meantime, we could step up our sessions a bit – what do you say?
Sophie : Good idea! By the way, do you think I could start working on more complex choreographies?
Marc : Absolutely! But first, we should work on your self-confidence. That’s really the key point right now.
Sophie : You’re right… Sometimes I’m still afraid of making a mistake or looking ridiculous.
Marc : That’s exactly it! But you know what? Next time we’re going to do a little improvisation exercise. It’ll help you let go.
Sophie : Improv? Oh my… it makes me a little nervous, I must admit!
Marc : Trust me! And besides, look at how far you’ve come since January. You can be proud of yourself!
Sophie : It’s true that when I look at my first videos… what a difference! My friends can’t believe it.
Marc : Your friends? Do you show them your progress?
Sophie : Yes, and guess what – two of them would like to start too! I told them you were a great teacher!
Marc : Ah, thanks! I’m glad to hear that. So, shall we recap our goals for the next three months?
Sophie : Go ahead, I’m listening!
Marc : First, work on your confidence with improvisation. Second, learn a real choreography from A to Z. And third…
Sophie : Yes?
Marc : Third, get you ready for the studio’s end-of-year show! What do you think?
Sophie : A show? In front of an audience? Uh… isn’t that a bit soon?
Marc : Sophie, trust me, in three months you’ll be ready! And besides, it’ll be the perfect opportunity to show your progress to your family.
Sophie : Well… all right! After all, you have to start sometime! Thanks, Marc, you’re really encouraging.
Marc : Perfect! So, shall we meet on Thursday to start this new program?
Sophie : With pleasure! I can’t wait to see what the next three months have in store for us!
